The family of a Doncaster dad, who was killed with a single punch, wants to give something back to the medical staff who fought to try and save his life.

Darron Januszkiewcz was hit once as he was walking home from a night out last May and died of his injuries a week later.

Now his family are raising money for the Royal Hallamshire hospital where he was treated to give something back to the staff.

They're hoping he can have a lasting legacy there - with a new relatives room created in his memory.

Darron's brother Michael says they want there to be something there to remember him by:

"He's always alive in our memories and our minds and hearts but we just want to have something there that means he mattered. He mattered to us, he mattered to his community, he certainly mattered to his children and it means a lot to keep that alive.

"We want something to finish in the public domain that's just a lot more positive than what they might be aware of already. That's going to be Darron's memory continuing to live, with some wonderful facilities at the hospital for anyone who has to go such awful circumstances that we've gone through."

Darron's family are raising money for Sheffield Hospitals Charity in a series of fundraising events.

Michael told us it's important for them to give something back to the staff who were amazing when Darron was so ill:

"Your lowest point, you're in a place where you don't want to be - emotionally you're in a bad way and these people were just so helpful, couldn't do enough for us, they went the extra mile, opened lines of communication with us, worked with us to allow anybody we wanted to come and see him. He had one-to-one care round the clock, 24 hours a day.

"They fought and fought and fought and did everything they possibly could to, if he was going to live, to have some sort of quality of life - they did absolutely everthing they possibly could. They left a strong impression on us as a family at our lowest point and the worst moment in all of our lives. We had such wonderful support, guidance and direction."
