Brothers jailed after assaults with pieces of wood which left victims in Rotherham needing surgery

Two brothers who attacked people in the Kimberworth area of Rotherham with pieces of wood have ben jailed for a combined total of almost a decade.
The two separate assaults happened within 10 minutes of each other on March 18 2023, with the first seeing an 18 year old man being struck repeatedly by two assailants.
He was left with head, shoulder and leg injuries.
The second assault left a woman in her 30s with serious injuries to her face which later required surgery.
Officers were quickly able to trace the two suspects, 22 year old Joshua Heaps and 24 year old Callum Heaps, both of Grayson Road in Wingfield.
Joshua will spend seven years four months behind bars after admitting to possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and assault occasioning them actual bodily harm.
He was also convicted of GBH with intent and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Callum has been jailed for two years three months after admitting to possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Investigations Officer Rachel Scott, of South Yorkshire Police, said:
"Joshua and Callum Heaps’ brutality has left a lasting impact on both of their victims in what must have been an incredibly traumatic experience.
"Officers worked quickly to apprehend the brothers and a detailed investigation led to a number of charges being secured.
"I hope this sentence will allow both victims to feel like justice has been served and will give them the opportunity to move on from this incident."
