Doncaster Rovers have secured the services of home-grown talent Jay McGrath for a further three years, with the option of a further 12 months, after rejecting a £500,000 offer from another League One side.

The 22 year old, who started with the Rovers academy, returned to the Eco Power last January, making 47 appearances since during the League Two promotion-winning season.

The defender started his pro-career at Mickleover, before time with Coventry and League of Ireland side St Patrick's Athletic.

Speaking to the Rovers website, McGrath said: “I’m delighted, absolutely over the moon.”

“I think it’s right for me and the club. I’ve thrived here in the last year and a half since I signed.

“I love working under the staff and love playing for this club. At the end of the day it’s my club so it was a no-brainer when the offer was brought forward to sign here for another three years.

“It’s signing for my hometown club and doing what I love best. When you’re happy playing your football, that’s when you play your best football.”
