Investigation underway after crash in Sheffield

An investigation is underway after a crash in Sheffield in the early hours of this morning.

Police say they were called to St Mary's Gate where a car had collided into a barrier on the roundabout.

One person suffered life threatening injuries, another person , a 15 year old has been treated for minor injuries.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A Police statement said:

"We were called to St Mary's Gate at just before 2am today (Monday 17 June) to reports that a car had collided into a barrier on the roundabout.

"Officers attended and found two people inside the car. The driver is understood to have left the scene.

"Both of the occupants were taken to hospital, with the front-seat passenger understood to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

"The second occupant, a 15-year-old teenager, has been treated for minor injuries.

"A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information which could help our investigation should call 101 and quote incident number 71 of 17 June 2024."
