People across South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire plan to 'unite' at various event today - to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

2025 marks 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz - where 6 million Jews were brutally murdered by the Nazi's in World War 2.

Jane Ginsborg is from a Jewish Community Group in Sheffield - & plans to speak at a remembrance ceremony at Cutler's Hall in the city tonight:

"There will be time for silence and reflection.

"There will be prayers, and there will be representatives from various ethnic groups who've experienced genocide.

"The poignancy increases year by year, as there are fewer survivors from the camps.

"We're not going to have a better future unless people know and understand the past.

"People said never again after 1945, but look at what happened in Cambodia, Rwanda, Darfur, and Bosnia.

"There's plenty of other places I could list too - you get the message."

The event at Cutler's Hall in Sheffield is set to take place from 5.30pm - 7pm.

Elsewhere, a further remembrance event will go ahead at Clifton Park’s bandstand in Rotherham from 12pm-12.30pm.
