Former Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg knighted - and other South Yorks honours

The former MP gets the honour for political and public service

Former Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg's been knighted in the Queen's New Year's Honours.

The ex deputy prime minister's getting the title for political and public service.

It comes after he was ousted by Jared O'Mara in the Sheffield Hallam constituency in the general election this summer.

The first Briton in space - Sheffield's Helen Sharman - becomes a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George, for her work spreading the word about science particularly to younger people since her journey to Russia's Mir Space Station back in 1991.

Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees are also awarded knighthoods - and Strictly judge Darcey Bussell becomes a dame.

DAME

Ms Jacqueline Hewitt-Main, from Doncaster, is Chief executive officer of The Cascade Foundation. She gets her damehood for services to Prisoners.

Professor Hilary Anne Chapman, CBE, from Barnsley, is Chief Nurse at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She gets her damehood for services to Nursing.

MBE

Peter John Heald, from Sheffield, is Director of Lunds of Otley. He gets his MBE for services to Business and the community in West Yorkshire.

Christopher Paul Hudson, from Sheffield, is Founder and Owner of Chimo Sheffield (Manufacturing) Limited. He gets his MBE for services to Exports and Investment in Sheffield.

Bobby Gurbhej Singh Dev, from Rotherham, gets his MBE for services to Young People in Sheffield.

Mrs Monica Catherine Carroll, from Woodsetts, gets her MBE for services to the community in South Yorkshire.

Joan Mary Sanger, from Doncaster, gets her MBE for services to charity and the community in Beckingham, North Nottinghamshire.

OBE

Stephen Alan Lamb, from Sheffield, was the director of Returns Preparation, Immigration Enforcement at the Home Office. He gets his OBE for services to Improving Immigration Systems.

Kevin Leslie Clifford, from Sheffield, was chief nurse at NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group. He gets his OBE for services to Nursing.

BEM

David John Allen, from Barnsley, gets his BEM for services to the community in Barnsley.

Hayley Angela Rhodes Nelson, from Sheffield, gets her BEM for services to Digital Inclusion in Sheffield.

Gill Mary Rhodes, from Sheffield gets her BEM for services to Digital Inclusion in Sheffield
