A major road into Sheffield has reopened following an investigation into the discovery of a suspected World War Two bomb.

It was found during works at Sheffield Forgemasters just off Brightside Lane on Thursday morning (May 30).

Brightside Lane was closed in both directions at the junction with Hawke Street, while there's also delays on trains between Sheffield and Meadowhall.

An 100 meter cordon is in place around the area, and bomb disposal teams were called in to investigate.

In an update, South Yorkshire Police said: "Our officers and an army bomb disposal team attended and the device was found not to be an explosive."

The 100m cordon has now been lifted.

Train services between Sheffield and Meadowhall were briefly disrupted, with passengers moved onto other lines.
