Police are appealing for witnesses after rival football fans clashed at Rotherham station.

A fight broke out on Platform 2 at Rotherham station between a group of Derby County and Rotherham United supporters on Saturday 12th March.

At around 6.30pm approximately 30 Derby Country supporters, who were on a train on Platform 1, became involved in a verbal altercation with a group of Rotherham supporters on the opposite platform.

A few members of the group broke off, left the train and ran across the tracks. A fight then ensued between approximately 10 people on platform 2 for a couple of minutes before the fight broke up and the two parties went their separate ways.

PC Ewan Brechin from BTP said:

“We’d like to hear from anyone who was at Rotherham station on Saturday, 12 March who witnessed the incident.

“This type of violent behaviour is completely unacceptable and must have been extremely distressing and unpleasant for other passengers at the station.

“We are committed to stamping out football-related anti-social behaviour on the rail network and are doing all we can to identify the individuals concerned and bring them to justice.

"If you were at the station and witnessed the incident, please come forward and contact us as you may have information with could help us to do this.”
