A man was arrested at Sheffield United's match with Millwall over the weekend for allegedly stealing the football. Police in London say it was taken out of the stadium after being kicked off the pitch during the League One match.

Officers say the fan had been at the match with his young son. Lewisham Police tweeted to say Millwall 'fully support' the action, after several people took to the social media site to accuse them of being heavy-handed.

They said: "Millwall FC are fully supporting the police course of action. This sort of behaviour is not acceptable... what made it worse is that the man was with his young son. #Unacceptable behaviour. #Canwehaveourballback."

The Blades were beaten 2-1 at The Den, thanks to a last-minute penalty.
