Foodbanks across South Yorkshire admit they're 'bracing themselves' to have to support families 'emotional needs' over the next week or so.

It's as many are expected to struggle to afford basic essentials - like extra food - which would normally be provided for free by schools - with half term starting today.

Alison Wise from the S6 Foodbank in Sheffield reckons demand will go up over the next few days:

"It's not just a free school lunch that a lot of children are being provided by schools.

"We know anecdotally that teachers are bringing food in for breakfast - food from their own cupboards at home - to help support families.

"We anticipate probably putting a few extras into parcels this week, which's something we tend to do if we know a family has multiple children at home.

"We'll try and add in a few extra treats that the children might want to eat over the half term.

"We're expecting to have to provide an increasing amount of food-based support - but also emotional support at the foodbank - to help parents get through what could be a tough week."

S6 Foodbank tell us they're still in needs of extra basics like tinned fruit, breakfast cereal, and UHT milk.
