Hundreds of flooded South Yorkshire households helped by fundraising appeal

More than 300 flooded households in South Yorkshire have had payments from a huge fundraising appeal set up in the aftermath of the bad weather.
This weekend marks a month since our county was hit and almost half a million pounds has now been raised to help those affected.
But as Christmas gets closer organisers are urging us not forget about the victims, many of whom are still out of their homes.
South Yorkshire Community Foundation has been giving out initial grants of ÂŁ200 - Shannon Roberts is one of the organisers:
"ÂŁ200 on the surface sounds quite small but these are just the first phase payments so at the moment we're just trying to give people that little extra hand to take the edge off what will obviously be a lot of expense.
"We were up in Bentley on Monday and we were talking to people about running dehumidifiers and heaters and the cost of running those day-to-day is quite high."
The foundation is working its way through more than 500 applications from flooded households - so far they've given money to 314.
Shannon says it's important to remind people to keep donating over Christmas:
"Not having your home at Christmas must be really hard so we're doing what we can over this period to get the fundraising in to make the Christmas period a bit easier and feel less alone as well.
"When we did the funding last time, many of the people affected felt very isolated and lonely. People giving like they are now really makes people feel like they're in it with other people.
"It can be very lonely when something like this happens, particularly over a festive period when everyone's getting ready to celebrate so it's just remembering that there are people out there who are really struggling right now and if you're able to give anything it'd be a huge help - even if it's just ÂŁ1."
