Firearms found during police search near Doncaster
Officers have been carrying out searches as part of an investigation into organised crime
What appears to be a gun and shells have been found by police searching an area of Doncaster, amid an investigation into organised crime.
Officers said the firearm was found in Mexborough during a bid to record hidden and discarded weapons used by organised crime gangs.
South Yorkshire Police said they believe the firearm was "viable".
In a statement, the force said: "Carrying out these searches is just one of the ways that our teams are working to disrupt those involved in organised and violent crime in our city.
"If you have information that could help guide our searches and remove weapons from the streets of Doncaster, please contact us."
