Four of the Three Lions squad grew up in South Yorkshire

A former coach of two South Yorkshire England stars tells us he's "fantastically proud" in their success as they get ready for the biggest game of their careers on home soil.

The Three Lions take on Denmark at Wembley tonight for a place in the final of Euro 2020.

Four of the England squad are from South Yorkshire - Sheffield's Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker and Dominic Calvert-Walker as well as Barnsley's John Stones.

Ron Reid was manager of the Sheffield United Academy when Maguire and Walker were there - he says it was obvious early on how talented Harry Maguire was:

"Once they had settled in it became fairly obvious that Harry had got something about him that was a bit special. He was very composed on the ball, he was technically very able and he was intelligent.

"He made good decisions. Good decsisions about when and where to pass, when to drop off, when to go in tight and that sort of thing. It just struck us all that there's somebody a little bit special here."

As well as the four South Yorkshire born talents, Sheffield United goalkeeper Adam Ramsdale is also in the squad, although he hasn't enjoyed any pitch time so far in the tournament.

Kyle Walker started his career with the Blades before moving on to Spurs and then Manchester City where he plays club football now.

Ron tells us he stood out when he reached the first team:

"I think Kyle had the best debut of any youngster that I've seen in my time. He was in there and you would have thought he was a seasoned pro playing in that game. He was suberb - he really was. To do that on your debut is something special.

"Every time I see them when they're playing for England - when they've played in a back three, two thirds of that back three have come through Sheffield United Academy and that makes me fantastically proud. And of course the third part of that back three is John Stones, another South Yorkshire lad."

The Three Lions are just two wins away from their first major tournament victory since 1966.

We asked Ron how far he thinks England - with the help of Maguire and Walker - can go...

"There's no reason they can't win it."
