EXCLUSIVE: Grieving Killamarsh mum channels her energy into helping domestic violence victims

Angela Smith says she's been inspired by her daughter & grandchildren who were killed in 2021

A woman - whose daughter & grandchildren were murdered in Killamarsh nearly 3 years ago - wants to help 'put a smile back on the faces' of domestic abuse victims.

This year - Angela Smith has started creating 'care packages' - full of essential items - & has been sending them to women's refuge centres across the country.

They're designed as a bit of a morale boost for women in crisis - who've managed to escape a violent partner - with the packages getting sent to women's refuge centres in need of more resources.

It's after her daughter Terri Harris, Terri's 2 young children & their friend Connie Gent were killed by Damien Bendall in 2021 - who's now serving a whole life order in prison.

She's been speaking to us exclusively about her new project and the inspiration behind it:

"Some of these domestic violence victims end up leaving their homes with absolutely nothing.

"The care packages include a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, a hairbrush, a pen, and a diary.

"I just hope that we can continue to help where we're needed.

"If we can help just one person following this tragedy our family has been through, then that can only be a good thing.

"Every three days a woman gets killed. That's terrible, and we can't continue like this.

"Women in violent relationships need to get out, because you don't want to end up like my daughter and grandchildren did.

"The local community in Killamarsh have been brilliant so far with donations.

"Small businesses have really helped us out, and hopefully we can keep gathering momentum moving forwards."

Angela started the project in January of 2024.
