A Sheffield mum whose son died in Afghanistan's urging people to pay their respects to fallen service people this Armistice Day.

Nicolette Williams' son Christopher was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan back in 2007 and has since raised ÂŁ37 thousand to build a war memorial in Shiregreen.

She says losing Christopher made a huge impact:

"It was absolutely devastating, and it still is today. It's a fresh today as it was when we found out. He was just such a pleasurable young man - everyone liked him and he was an honour and a credit to me.

"Remembrance day isn't one day for the families that have lost a loved one - every day is Remembrance Day for us. The pain is just heightened more on Remembrance Day, birthdays and Christmas."

Nicolette wants people to remember those who've lost their lives in conflicts over the years:

"We've got our freedom due to them sacrificing their precious young lives, due to them being injured, mutilated, getting mental scars. We owe them a lot of gratitude, honour and respect and we should never ever forget that they laid their lives down for us.

"There are too many families out there who've lost loved ones - not just talking about recent conflicts like Iraq and Afghan - like 100 years ago with the Battle of the Somme. There have been far too many wars and far too many families have been disrupted and devastated."

Nicolette's urging people to come along to the service on Sunday at the war memorial she fundraised for in Shiregreen.

A new feature - a granite information table - will be unveiled at the end of a serivce by Alexander Hanson.
