South Yorkshire based England fans 'buzzing' to watch the Three Lions in Germany
We've been speaking to England supporters heading out to Euro 2024 from South Yorkshire
England fans heading out to watch them in the group stages of Euro 2024 tell us they're 'buzzing' to watch the Three Lions in action.
Gareth Southgate's side play their first game in the tournament on Sunday against Serbia.
James Swann - from Barnsley - is setting off to Germany today - on the ferry from Hull - so he can get to England's opening match in time:
"I think England can definitely get to the semi-final, especially if it all works out as planned.
"It means we could end up playing against France, which would be a tough game, but we owe them one after they beat us in Qatar.
"I'm really excited for Euro 2024 now.
"I just can't wait to get on the ferry to go - it's the most excited I've been for a tournament in a long time.
"I'm more excited for this than I was for the World Cup in Qatar back in 2022."
Meanwhile, hospitality businesses will be hoping the tournament can give the sector a welcome boost this summer.
Cody Pendlebury is from True North Brewery - which has 10 venues across Sheffield & Barnsley:
"Last time, when the football was on, it was at Christmas time.
"This combined two of our biggest revenue streams into one, so it meant that we didn't get that summer boost.
"This year, we're going to get that summer boost, which could help put us back in a strong position, especially after the pandemic.
"Trends have changed; people are going out in the daytime more often, and this competition should really help hospitality get back on its feet.
"I think every hospitality venue in the country will really be hoping England can get to the latter stages of this tournament."
Germany play Scotland tonight at 8pm in the opening fixture of Euro 2024.
