UPDATE: Two arrested following reports of gas explosion in Thurnscoe

A man and a woman have been arrested for drugs offences in connection with a reported explosion at a house in Thurnscoe.

The man - in his 30s - was in the house at the time of last night's blast on Cromwell Street and suffered injuries which police say aren't life threatening.

Emergency crews remain at the scene as investigations continue.

We're told there's no risk to the wider community.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said:

"Police were called at about 9.20pm yesterday following reports from the fire service of a possible gas explosion at a house on Cromwell Street in Thurnscoe, Barnsley.

"A man in his 30s, who was inside the house at the time, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

"The man and a woman in her 20s have been arrested for drugs offences in connection with the incident.

"Emergency services currently remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident.

"There are no concerns for the wider community and the road has now been re-opened."
