A group of South Yorkshire businesses are calling on the new government to 'play their part' in helping Doncaster Sheffield Airport re-open as soon as possible.

Campaigners have written a joint letter to the new Transport Secretary - urging Louise Haigh to help protect the airspace above DSA.

It's been paused since DSA's closure back in 2022 - & Mark Chadwick from Doncaster- who's been fighting to save the airport - tells us why it's so important:

"We want to keep the same airspace - with no restrictions, and no changes - so that the new operator can get it open in a timely manner.

"If the airspace goes, then that's another year on to our timescale to get Doncaster Sheffield Airport open.

"The airspace is the next step in the process.

"I can't stress enough how important it is.

"If the airspace is closed, then the new operators will end up having to go through a long process to get the permissions to re-open Doncaster Sheffield Airport."

A DfT spokesperson said: “The re-opening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport would not only boost the region’s economy and connectivity, but also create many jobs for the community, so we welcome the progress being made.

"We look forward to working with the Civil Aviation Authority, Doncaster Council and local partners towards that positive goal."
