Recruitment efforts for Doncaster Sheffield Airport have ramped up, with 'experienced' air traffic controllers now being sought.

The roles are now being advertised on the City of Doncaster Council's website, with salaries between £55,000 and £65,000.

South Yorkshire leaders met earlier last month to sign off on £160m worth of public money to get the travel hub back open.

A new operator for the airstrip, closed since 2022, has already been found.

Three key jobs, including Head of General Aviation and Cargo, Head of Fire Rescue and Emergency Planning and Head of Assets, were advertised last month.

Christian Foster, Director of South Yorkshire Airport City, the programme set up to reopen the airport, said: “These roles come hot on the heels of the three heads of service posts that we advertised last month.

“We are pressing ahead at pace in recruiting vital roles to help the airport reopen as soon as possible.

"Obviously having skilled air traffic controllers is a key part of the airport operating functions so we are searching for people who have the required level of expertise, qualifications and experience to come to work for Fly Doncaster.”

The airstrip is set to reopen to cargo flights next year, with commercial flights to resume in 2028.
