Drivers advised to allow 'plenty of extra journey time' over the Bank Holiday weekend
Roadworks are expected to slow things down on certain motorway routes
Drivers across South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire are being advised to allow 'plenty of extra journey time' over the Bank Holiday weekend.
More vehicles are expected to be on the roads - while roadworks on some motorway routes could also slow things down.
Dave Wilson from National Highways covers Yorkshire & the Northeast of England:
"We do try and remove as many roadworks as we possibly can, particularly at peak periods, such as ban holidays.
"Unfortunately, across our region, we can't remove some roadworks due to safety reasons, such as those on the M1 around Sheffield.
"So, we're asking people to allow extra journey time to get through these road works.
"Routes in and out of the major retail areas are expected to be busy as well.
"It's probably one of the quieter bank holidays of the year, but if the weather is nice, more people are likely to want to get out of the house.
"This time of year, the weather can still change very quickly, so be prepared for the heavens to open, as it can do on a British bank holiday."
