Two men have been arrested at the Port of Dover in connection with an investigation into modern slavery and sexual exploitation in Sheffield.

The 30 and 40 year olds have been questioned on suspicion of modern slavery and human trafficking concerning sexual exploitation and have both been released on bail.

It comes after the arrests of a 23-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman in December 2024, and a 25-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman earlier in January as part of the same investigation.

Detective Inspector James Smith of South Yorkshire Police said:

“We know that modern slavery and human trafficking is taking place in our communities in South Yorkshire and is often happening in plain sight in the towns and cities where we live and work."

"An investigation was launched in November 2024, after we received reports of sexual exploitation taking place in the Arbourthorne area of Sheffield.

“We continue to encourage anyone with information about modern slavery taking place in your area to report it to us so we can identify and protect victims, and those who could be at risk of exploitation.”

Anyone with information which could assist further is being urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101.
