Doncaster Teacher Death: Police Following New Leads

Published 21st Aug 2015

Detectives investigating the death of Doncaster teacher Lewis Siddall have thanked the public for their help following an appeal on Silver Street, Doncaster - a week on from his death.

Detectives spoke to over 60 people last night as part of an operation to trace potential witnesses who may have been in the area the previous week when the 24-year-old was allegedly assaulted in the VDKA bar.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Handley, who is leading the investigation, said: “At this stage one of our key aims is to identify and speak to potential witnesses to establish the full circumstances that led to Lewis’ untimely death a week ago.

“I know how popular Lewis was as a teacher and the response we’ve had from the public has been very encouraging with officers speaking to over 60 people last night.

“We are following a number of positive lines of enquiry and we are continuing our work in terms of examining a significant amount of CCTV footage from the VDKA bar and the surrounding area.

“My main priority is to provide Lewis’ family with the answers they need and deserve in terms of what happened to him when he went out last Thursday evening (13 August) before returning home with significant head injury, which sadly proved to be fatal.

“I would continue to ask anyone who was in the VDKA bar or the area of Silver Street last Thursday (13 August) around 11pm and may have witnessed what happened to come forward. You may have information that is pivotal to this investigation.”

A murder investigation was launched after Mr Siddall, 24, was found dead at his home in Skellow, Doncaster, on Friday 14 August, after he was allegedly assaulted at the bar at around 11pm the night before.

He died as a result of a head injury.
