It mistook it for an accident

A smart watch worn by a Doncaster Rovers fan called police last night after it mistook his goal celebration for an emergency.

It happened during their 4-2 win over Barrow in League Two on Saturday (April 20) - the club's ninth in a row.

Rovers have since moved into the play-off places, eyeing a promotion to League One, after beating Colchester on Tuesday (April 23).

In a post on social media, South Yorkshire Police revealed the smart watch rang out following Hakeeb Adelakun's 85th minute goal.

The call handler noted it was "clearly" from a football match because of the background noise.

Doncaster Rovers are fifth in the table ahead of their trip to Gillingham on the final day of the season on Saturday (April 27), where a draw could be enough for a chance at promotion.
