Fears more Doncaster young people exploited into violent drugs gangs during pandemic
Crimestoppers have launched a new appeal for information in the area

We're told the pandemic has exposed more Doncaster kids to the dangers of drugs gangs looking to exploit young people into crime.
South Yorkshire Police have asked Crimestoppers to gather anonymous tip offs about groups operating in areas around Mexborough, Edlington and Denaby.
It's after a rise in concerns from local residents, with the charity saying communities are being "blighted" by the violence and intimidation of gangs that control the drugs trade.
Gemma Gibbs is Regional Manager for Crimestoppers - she says it's having a real impact:
"They are using violence, they're using intimidation, and they're using weapons including firearms and knives. The other concern is they're impacting local children and young people who are being exploited by these drugs runners and being used to deal the drugs on their behalf.
"It does seem to be even more increasing at the moment because obviously young people are regularly on social media, they're regularly available on their mobile phones and because the schools aren't in session as they usually would be, the lockdown has actually exposed young people even more to being used by these drugs runners."
People in the area are being urged to come forward to Crimestoppers to report information that might help the police crack down on gangs operating in the area.
The charity's offering rewards of up to £1,000 for tip offs that lead to an arrest or charge.
Gemma says any information they get it totally anonymous:
“We know that many people share our concern about crime gangs, but feel unable to do anything about it or fear reprisals if they do raise issues. But by contacting our charity – online or on the phone - no one will ever know.
“We know it’s difficult to talk about crime harming your area, but rest assured, with Crimestoppers, your information can help stop vulnerable people being exploited and can help law enforcement get the information they need to stop the harm these crime gangs and families cause.
“No one should live in fear and no one should have to worry about children and young people within their communities being exploited and used by criminal gangs. Everyone has options when reporting crime – that they can tell our charity and stay completely anonymous."
You can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or on the charity's website.
