Two men have been jailed for three years nine months each after shooting at and attempting to set fire to a home in Doncaster.

Police were called to Hawthorne Grove at 10pm on December 22 2024, after receiving reports of shots being fired.

Officers managed to obtain CCTV footage showing a group of armed men pulling up, before carrying out the shooting and attempted arson.

The men then escaped in a vehicle, which was later determined to be a Kia Sorento seen driving around the area with several masked men iside.

22 year old James McGuinness, of Vulcan Crescent in Scawsby and 24 year old Ryan Jobes, of Carr View Avenue in Balby were two of the passengers inside the vehicle.

A search found they were in possession of disposable gloves which smelled of petrol and accelerant.

Using CCTV, police were able to determine the pair were responsible for the incident on Hawthorne Grove.

They've each been handed three years nine months behind bars at Sheffield Crown Court, after admitting to arson endangering life and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Barnes, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "There is no place for the sort of mindless violence gun crime inflicts on our communities. Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of Jobes and McGuinness' reckless actions, but this isn't always the case."

"We have seen first-hand in South Yorkshire the damage firearms cause and we will not tolerate gun crime.

"The quick work and real team effort shown during this investigation was vital in apprehending Jobes and McGuinness within hours of their callous attack in Doncaster. This is another example of our ongoing relentless approach to tackling firearm enabled criminality."
