Three jailed after Doncaster shop burglary and raid on till
The trio were caught with stolen cash after being tracked by CCTV
Three burglars have been jailed after being caught red-handed with stolen cash following a break-in at a shop in the centre of Doncaster earlier this year.
Colin Richardson, 38, Stefan Walker, 35, and Yves Udahemuka, 45, targeted a shop on French Gate in the early hours of August 28.
The burglars were seen fleeing the scene with stolen vapes, power tools, a crack pipe, and cash taken from the shop’s till.
Unbeknownst to the trio, CCTV was tracking their movements, leading officers to quickly locate and arrest them as they ran towards the Marina in Doncaster city centre.
Each suspect was found in possession of stolen cash, and they were taken into custody and charged with burglary.
All three men — who are of no fixed abode — pleaded guilty to the charges.
Last Friday (December 12), Richardson, Walker, and Udahemuka were sentenced to one year behind bars at Sheffield Crown Court.
Sergeant Steve Roberts of South Yorkshire Police said: “Response officers acted quickly to arrest the trio responsible for this crime, working alongside CCTV operators and call dispatchers to apprehend Richardson, Walker, and Udahemuka and bring them into custody"
“Burglary and retail crime have a huge impact — not just on local businesses but on the safety of our city centre, and we will continue to work promptly and effectively to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.”
“If you have been a victim of a break-in or a shop theft, I would urge you to please report it to us so we can investigate thoroughly."
“I want to thank businesses in the city centre and Doncaster as a whole who have supported us this year by making prompt reports of these types of crime, and I implore other businesses to please do the same, as without those reports we cannot investigate and deliver justice.”
