The breakdown company RAC claim that Derbyshire is the worst region in the UK for potholes.

Just 1.1% of minor roads and 4.9% of major A roads received maintenance by Derbyshire County Council in the period 2023-24.

The Government have invested £1.6 billion this year in resurfacing projects across the country, with Derbyshire seeing a share of £175 million that was given to the East Midlands for road issues.

A council spokesperson said that they have been looking at repairs but that more Government investment is needed.

Simon Williams from the RAC says that: "Potholes are the bane of driver's lives. They cause a lot of damage and are a road safety danger"

"They need to be filled but unfortunately in this country we've just got into a cycle of filling"

"The preservation work is more important than the cure. Derbyshire really haven't done much preservation work to their roads".

He's hoping that the new Government funding will see Derbyshire's roads start to improve: "I think we'll be expecting to see these figures change dramatically, and drivers will also be expecting to see the roads improve considerably".
