Labour's new High Peak MP: I don't want my constituents living in a 'dental desert'
Jon Pearce says fixing the lack of dental care in his constituency is one of his top aims
The new Labour MP for the High Peak tells us he wants to 'transform the level of dental care available' in his constituency.
Jon Pearce believes the Peak District is currently at risk of turning into a 'dental desert' due to the lack of dentists there:
"It's a massive issue, it came up again and again on the doorstep during the election campaign.
"So, it's vital that we get on and start tackling the problem.
"There won't be an overnight solution; you can't just magic up dentists out of nowhere, but it's a real priority for me to start seeing more NHS dentists back available.
"This is a problem across the country, but here in the High Peak, it's almost impossible to get an NHS dentist if you're an adult.
"I hear so many stories of people being forced to go private or travelling huge distances to try and find an NHS dentist."
Jon Pearce replaced Robert Largan as the High Peak MP last month.
