Deadly heroin warning in Barnsley
South Yorkshire Police issue warning to heroin users in Barnsley after the deaths of four people.
Four people are dead after police believe they took heroin in Barnsley.
They've issued a warning for users to be extremely cautious as they investigate whether the unexplained deaths of three men and a woman at Barnsley and Grimethorpe yesterday are linked.
Officially they're not connected but Temporary Chief Inspector Ian Proffitt said: "We are very concerned. For four deaths to occur in similar circumstances in a small time period and in a relatively small geographical area is unusual.
"We are currently exploring to establish if they are linked to the strength or content of heroin being used locally.
"The public should exercise caution if they come into contact with controlled drugs, particularly heroin, or heroin derivatives.
"If you experience any unusual symptoms after taking drugs, seek medical attention immediately"
The four deaths were reported on Good Friday at four separate addresses in Barnsley: a 33 year old man and a 40 year old man were found dead at two separate addresses in Barnsley, while a 47 year old woman was found dead at a house in Grimethorpe on Friday morning (14th April), whilst a a 31 year old man was found dead at an address in Barnsley later in the day.
Two men, aged 37 and 42, were arrested arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs and released under investigation.
