A jury has gone out to consider its verdicts in the trial of three men accused of murdering a 16-year-old boy who died after a car ploughed into him on a pavement.

Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Taleb died when he was hit by an Audi driven by Zulkernain Ahmed in Sheffield on June 4 last year, the city's Crown Court has heard.

Jurors have seen graphic video footage of the vehicle moving to the wrong side of the road, colliding with an e-bike rider called La'rome Divers, knocking him over a hedge, before hitting Abdullah, who was thrown through the air by the impact.

Zulkernain Ahmed, 21, denies murdering Abdullah, along with his brother Armaan Ahmed, 26, and Adam Mohammed, 30.

Armaan Ahmed and Mohammed were back seat passengers in the Audi at the time of the collision.

Another Ahmed brother, Zain, was the front seat passenger, but has not been traced by police, prosecutors have said.

The prosecution case is that Zulkernain Ahmed set out to target Mr Divers, who was riding along Staniforth Road, in the Darnall area of Sheffield, with two others - one on a moped and the other on another e-bike.

Mr Divers, who refused to make a statement to police, was seriously injured in the incident, the court has heard.

The jury has been told by prosecutors that Abdullah was "in the wrong place at the wrong time" and that the car was used as a "weapon".

They said the defendants were out looking for Mr Divers in relation to a dispute about e-bikes.

When he gave evidence in the trial, Zulkernain Ahmed said he was looking for Mr Divers because he was worried he was a threat to his family, and spotted him riding on Staniforth Road.

The defendant, who admitted taking a baseball bat with him, told the jury he only wanted to talk to Mr Divers but "at the last second I got scared and panicked" and decided to "give him a nudge".

He told the jury: "It was not my intention for anything like this to happen to (Abdullah) or to anyone."

Armaan Ahmed told police he went with his brother for a meeting about a bike, and he was there to "make sure he was safe".

Mohammed told police "my sole purpose for getting in the vehicle was to smoke a spliff and then to go play snooker", the court heard.

Zulkernain Ahmed and Armaan Ahmed, both of Locke Drive, Darnall, and Mohammed, of Acres Hill Road, Darnall, all also deny attempting to murder each of the three riders - two of whom have never been identified.

The defendants also deny alternative charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.

The jury has been told that Zulkernain Ahmed has admitted the manslaughter of Abdullah and one charge of causing grievous bodily harm.
