The man in charge of South Yorkshire fire service has told Hallam FM, further cuts to its budget will put people here at risk.

Under Government plans over the next four years the service will lose another £5million.

Chief fire officer for South Yorkshire James Courtney has told us having already had to make savings he has real concerns that their 999 service will suffer and they'll have to make cuts to their frontline.

He said:

“Ultimately given we're an organisation focused on the employment of firefighters to provide an emergency response to incidents, and given that represents the greater proportion of our budget, it's difficult to envisage a situation whereby that won’t be affected over the next few years.”
