Fire crews have now left the site of a huge blaze at a recycling plant near Doncaster.

They believe the fire has been fully extinguished, but say an appliance will visit tomorrow to ensure there are no "recurring hot spots".

Officers first attended the scene on Carr Hill, Balby on Monday evening. At its height, 12 fire engines were at the incident.

People living or travelling nearby were asked to keep windows and doors shut, and not use car air conditioning systems.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "The incident will now be handed over to Doncaster Council and a range of other partner agencies who will support the site owners in recovering from the fire.

"We’d like to once again thank local people for their patience, our partner agencies for their support and our firefighters for their amazing work during a really challenging incident."
