Couple Suffer Serious Burns in 'Deliberate' Tent Fire

A man and a woman are being treated for extensive burns after their tent was set on fire in Doncaster.

It happened in the early hours of this morning on a grassy area off College Road.

The 42-year-old woman and 32-year-old man suffered serious burns.

Police were called at 1.20am. They believe the blaze was started deliberately.

The couple were also allegedly assaulted by a man, or men, when they got out of the tent.

Both are being treated at a burns unit and are in a stable condition.

A neighbouring tent was also set alight but the 21-year-old man inside escaped with minor burns to his hands.

A small group of men were reportedly in the location at the time it happened and police are particularly interested in a white transit van that was also seen in the area.

Police are treating the incident as suspicious and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who could help with their enquiries.
