Concerns have been raised about money-saving plans making more young people in Rotherham vulnerable to exploitation, radicalisation and hate crime.

Later this week the council will discuss how to cut over a million pounds which it says would mean closing youth centres and losing youth workers.

Rotherham MP Sarah Champion says it's short-sighted and will cost the authorities more in the long-run when young people need more support.

She said:

"Youth workers are the first line of defence in tackling CSE, sexual violence, hate crimes and radicalisation. Should the drastic cuts proposed be allowed to proceed, I am gravely concerned that RMBC will limit itself only to its statutory duties and that the result could be catastrophic.”
