International graduates in South Yorkshire could 'try & get compensation'
It's after disruption to their studies due to Covid-19 & strike action
International graduates in South Yorkshire tell us they'll 'try to get compensation' - following disruption to their studies - due to the pandemic & recent strike action.
This comes as a legal battle is taking place today between some students & graduates from University College London - who're suing the Uni for a breach of contract.
Ella - who's originally from Portugal - graduated with her biology degree at the Uni of Sheffield last year.
She admits her experience could've been better:
"We didn't have any labs or any practical classes, so I think that really was something I missed out on.
"It was much harder to do work with my other course mates too, and that could've been really helpful at times.
"The contact with lecturers wasn't ideal either, as we never got chance to ask extra questions at the end of lectures or anything. It was all email communication.
"We were told we would have in person classes, and this never even happened.
"I rented a house for a whole year because of this, and I came back to Sheffield, whereas I could've stayed at home in Portugal to learn remotely.
"There was a lot of extra expense because of all this, and it wasn't necessary, because I was just learning remotely anyway."
The Uni of Sheffield has been sent letters of claim - along with eighteen other universities in the UK.
We've reached out to them for a comment but are yet to receive a response.
