Award winning author visits South Yorkshire school to raise awareness on county lines
Christina Gabbitas has been spending time with Y6 pupils at Shaw Wood Academy in Doncaster
As part of world book day - school children in South Yorkshire are learning about the 'dangers' of county lines.
It's when young people are groomed into gangs - with the aim of getting them to transport drugs to different towns & cities.
Award winning author Christina Gabbitas has been getting Y6 pupils at Shaw Wood Academy in Doncaster to read poems about the issue:
"When you get all the pupils reading the poem together, it can be really powerful.
"Also, it's a really good and memorable way to get the message ingrained into their heads before they go to secondary school."
"It's an important time in their lives, so they need to be aware of what they could end up facing in their local communities as they get older."
