Chaos broke out at a Sheffield school this morning after a car crashed into the front doors as children were arriving to start the day.

Police were called to Fir Vale School around 8.30am to reports of a black BMW was speeding round the carpark before it hit the front entrance.

People who live nearby told us they heard children screaming:

About 8.15 this morning we could hear kids screaming from the main entrance of the school," says local resident Nasar Raoof.

“The school has confirmed nobody has been injured but a lot of children have been distressed by what’s happened. You could see some of them crying in horror, the tears on their face… one of my cousins is slightly autistic and for her to have gone through this experience has left her in absolute shock.”

Nobody was injured in the incident. Two Sheffield men aged 23 and 20 have been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and are currently in police custody.

T/ Detective Chief Inspector Steve Ashmore said: “The school will remain closed for the remainder of the day as officers conduct enquiries to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and provide reassurance.

“We are confident that this is an isolated incident and there is no current risk to the school or the surrounding community."
