Breweries across South Yorkshire set to contend with more price increases
Energy costs at Chantry brewery in Rotherham have already gone up by around 400% this year
There are concerns a pint in South Yorkshire could set you back up to £10 - as breweries are faced with more price increases.
The staff at Chantry Brewery in Rotherham tell us Malt - one of the main ingredients - is due to go up by 40% in the New Year.
Co-owner Mick Warburton says they're just having to take things a day at a time:
"We've seen probably a 400% increase in our energy costs.
"That's had another knock-on effect where all our suppliers have had similar energy increases, so our supplies are going up massively too.
"We're seeing new price increases every day.
"We sell mainly to pubs, and we don't want to give them too much of an increase because obviously they're struggling as well.
"Ultimately, the paying customer in a pub can only afford to pay so much. They've got their gas and electric bills to pay too, so we don't want to make things unreasonable right at the end of the chain.
"If we were to pass all of these increases on, it would be an eye watering price at the beer pump.
"We're just hoping to ride it out and not put any increases on for now, but we can only absorb all of this pressure for so long."
