Body recovered at Didcot Power Station collapse

A body has been found at Didcot Power Station after the partial collapse of the boiler house in February.

Two Rotherham demolition workers - 57-year-old Ken Cresswell and 61-year-old John Shaw - have been trapped at the site ever since, alongside a third man, 34-year-old Chris Huxtable from Wales.

The body has not yet been formally identified, but the families of all three men have been informed.

Emergency services held a guard of honour overnight as the body was recovered from the site.

Rotherham MP Sarah Champion has campaigned with the families for the recovery work at the site to be stepped up - labelling it a 'national scandal' that the men were still trapped there six months after the collapse.

"They were initially incredibly shocked when they first heard the news," she told Hallam.

"But as they have done for the last six months, they have rallied together as families. It has been torture for these families, but hopefully now we're getting to the point where they'll be able to say goodbye properly to their husbands.

"These families have been through living hell that nobody should have to go through. They've had to fight every step of the way to get information, to get the searches going, just to be kept informed and treated with dignity.

"I feel huge relief that one of the men has been found, but of course the anxiety is that actually three men were killed when the power station collapsed, and we're still waiting for news of the other two."

The contractors have paused the removal of debris so that specialists from Thames Valley Police and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue and the South Central Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Recovery Team (HART), can enter the site.

Thames Valley Police said their thoughts are with the families.
