Sheffield United midfielder Jose Baxter has been disciplined by the club for an "incident" over the weekend.

The 23-year-old has made 20 appearances for the Blades in League One this season but did not feature in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Barnsley after he was substituted at half-time in the club's previous game against Shrewsbury.

The Blades have refused to comment on the specific nature of Baxter's wrongdoing, but it is not the first time the former Everton trainee has found himself in hot water.

Baxter received a five-month ban from the Football Association last May, three of which were suspended, after traces of ecstasy were found in a routine drugs test in April.

A Blades statement read:

"Sheffield United Football Club is aware of an incident over the weekend, which involved Jose Baxter.

"This morning he has been disciplined by the club. Sheffield United will not comment further on this issue.''
