There are calls for the government to do more to support South Yorkshire deaf children to access education during lockdown.

Sheffield Hallam MP Olivia Blake's written to Gavin Williamson saying many have struggled with face masks and a lack of specialist teachers during the pandemic.

Assistant Head of Doncaster School of the Deaf, Theresa Cartlidge, says many deaf children struggle with home learning.

"If you are on a Zoom session, and you are a deaf child, you have to watch that teacher constantly. It's not like hearing peers who can move away and still listen. You can't look away and read something that you are being asked to read.

"It can become very intense, and very tiring."

It comes as the Education Secretary was grilled by MPs on the Education Committee, about his work during the pandemic.
