A Barnsley man has been sentenced to 15 years and eight months in prison for rape and assault.

David Nistor, 26, of Heelis Street was arrested in June 2025 after his victim came forward to her local police station on the same day of an assault.

She disclosed that Nistor had raped her on previous occasions.

Despite making no comment during his police interview and pleading not guilty to seven counts of rape and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, Nistor later pleaded guilty to the assault charge in November 2025.

On January 16 Nistor was found guilty of seven counts of rape by a jury at Sheffield Crown Court and jailed the same day.

Detective Constable Rosie Allott, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “The victim’s bravery in reporting Nistor’s disgusting crimes helped to ensure that justice was done.

“I am glad that Nistor has been jailed and will not be able to do further harm during his long years behind bars.

“Our officers acted quickly to arrest Nistor on the day that his offences were reported. I hope that this case encourages other victims of sexual offences to report to us.”
