41 year old Alan Sutton was stabbed in Monk Bretton

A man who died in Monk Bretton, Barnsley, on Sunday (1 September) has been named as Alan Sutton.

At 4.23pm police were called to an altercation between a group of men on Burton Road.

The 41-year-old was found with suspected stab wounds to his chest.

Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Five individuals have been arrested following Alan’s death - a 19-year-old woman, and two men aged 21 and 32 who were arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested today (3 September) on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon and assault, with a 41-year-old man arrested on suspicion of affray and assault yesterday (Monday 2 September).

The 21-year-old man remains in custody at this time. The other four individuals have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Ben Wood, said:

“Our enquiries into Alan’s tragic death are continuing at pace. We made several arrests within hours of the incident and are keen to hear from anyone with any information that could help our investigation into this incident.

“Our thoughts are with Alan’s family at this difficult time.”
