Barnsley man charged with murder

It follows the death of Alan Sutton on Sunday

A Barnsley man has been charged with murder following the death of Alan Sutton.

On Sunday (1 September) at 4.23pm, South Yorkshire Police received a call about reports of an altercation between a group of men on Burton Road in Monk Bretton.

Upon emergency services’ arrival, a 41-year-old man now known as Alan Sutton, was found with suspected stab wounds to his chest.

Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

21 year old Callum Strachen, of Burton Road, Barnsley, was arrested and has since been charged with murder.

He remains in police custody and will appear at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court today (5 September).

South Yorkshire Police will continue to appeal for witnesses and information following Alan’s death and ask that anyone who believes they can help to get in touch.
