Barnsley crash leaves 8 people injured

Police are appealing for information after a crash involving three cars in Barnsley left a 4-year-old girl and a 49-year-old man fighting for their lives.

The collision happened in Hoylandswaine at around 5.45pm last night (Monday 4 January), and left eight people injured.

Police say a silver Vauxhall Corsa, travelling along Barnsley Road toward Silkstone, collided with a blue Peugeot 107 travelling in the opposite direction towards Penistone.

It was reported that the Peugeot was then in collision with a black Ford Mondeo, travelling in the same direction as the Peugeot, close to the junction with Kine Moor Lane.

Travelling in the Corsa, a four-year-old girl suffered life-threatening injuries and is in hospital in a critical condition. A three-year-old boy suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The driver, a 36-year-old man, and a passenger, a 21-year-old man, both from Penistone, suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

A passenger in the Peugeot, a 49-year-old man from Barnsley, also suffered life-threatening injuries and is in hospital in a critical condition. The driver of the Peugeot, a 50-year-old woman from Barnsley, was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Travelling in the Mondeo, the driver, a 45-year-old woman from Hoylandswaine, and a passenger, a 23-year-old woman from Penistone, were both taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police are asking anyone who saw the crash, or the manner in which any of the cars were being driven before the collision, to contact 101 quoting incident number 795 of Monday 4 January.
