Two men arrested in Barnsley after ramming police cars
It's after officers spotted a suspicious vehicle on Saturday
Two 19-year-old men have neem arrested in Barnsley after a car they were in rammed two police vehicles while trying to flee.
Officers were on patrol on Saturday (January 24) when they noticed a vehicle with its occupants wearing face coverings and gloves, which they deemed suspicious.
Acting on instinct, the officers followed the car to Boulderbridge Lane, a locality known for vehicle abandonment.
When police pulled up in front of the parked car in a marked vehicle, with an unmarked police car behind it, the driver tried to speed off.
This led to the car ramming both police vehicles, causing damage.
Officers promptly arrested the driver and passenger.
A roadside drugs test was conducted on the driver, confirming a positive result for cannabis.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of multiple offences, including driving under the influence of drugs, dangerous driving, criminal damage, theft of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, and driving uninsured.
Meanwhile, the passenger was arrested on suspicion of possessing a class B drug and theft of a motor vehicle.
Both suspects have since been bailed as police enquiries continue.
