South Yorkshire man handed animal ban after dog found in 'filthy' conditions
The dog is now living in police kennels and will be rehomed
A South Yorkshire man has been banned from owning or caring for dogs for five years after his pet was found living in filthy conditions.
Damien Williams, 34, of Wesley Avenue, Aston, pleaded guilty to failing his duty to ensure the welfare of an animal at a hearing on 29th July 2025.
On November 18, he appeared before Sheffield Magistrates' Court where he was handed a five-year banning order under the Animal Welfare Act.
Williams was also ordered to pay £463 in fees and was deprived of ownership of his dog, Xena.
Officers discovered the bull breed dog in October last year.
Xena was living in unhygienic conditions without suitable bedding or an adequate area to sleep.
She was found among faeces and urine and was being kept in a location which posed a risk to her safety.
Xena was seized and brought into police care, where efforts to rehabilitate her are now ongoing.
The dog remains in police kennels and has undergone testing with the aim of rehoming her.
Officials said Xena has behavioural issues, and work to look at potential rehabilitation options is continuing.
