Two arrested after protest outside Chesterfield migrant hotel

Two men have been arrested after a protest about the housing of asylum seekers at a hotel in Chesterfield
The protest took place near the Sandpiper Hotel yesterday (November 30), with police introducing restrictions before the demo took place.
The order required that any protest or gathering in the area must not start before noon and must conclude by 5pm.
The men, aged 45 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of breaching the order.
Superintendent Richard Lambert, of Derbyshire Police, said: “The protest on the whole was peaceful and I would like to thank those that attended who adhered to the order put in place.
“Officers were very clear in explaining the Section 14 and why the protestors and counter protestors were in separate designated areas.
“As a force we will continue to facilitate people’s right to protest, however this must be within the law and our officers will be supported to take action should this be breached.”
