Pensioners across South Yorkshire are being encouraged to 'seek guidance' on whether they're getting all of the financial support available to them this winter.

With energy prices set to go up from next month, it's feared many vulnerable people could end up struggling to afford their bills.

Lis Rodgers is from the charity Age UK in Doncaster:

"Our advice and information service has been helping people who’ve been in touch, to actually help these people claim benefits to which they're entitled to.

"In some cases, we're looking at increasing somebodies' annual income by over £2,000 a year, which is absolutely life changing.

"For older people, applying for these things can be really hard if they don't have the technology available or support from family.

"They should not be forced into making the decision of having the heating on or not having the heating on.

"Getting a bit of advice could make all the difference and allow people to keep their heating on."
