Two people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision on the A57 near Rotherham.

Officers from South Yorkshire Police said they were alerted to an incident at 12:46pm on Friday afternoon (November 15th).

When officers arrived on the scene, between the junctions with the A618 and the B6053, they found a Ford transit van which had collided with a silver Kia Rio.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly afterwards, with the road temporarily being closed whilst heading away from the M1.

Since then, the road has been reopened as investigations into the crash were opened by the force.

The driver of the Kia, a 55-year-old woman, as well as a 61-year-old passenger, were taken to hospital to be treated.

Both victims currently remain in hospital and are being treated for their injuries, which have been described as "serious".

Police are now appealing for any information that could help in their enquiries, with a focus on those who were driving through the area at the time of the crash.

Anyone who may have any relevant information or dashcam footage can get in touch with the force by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 395 from November 15th.
